Full Back Piece Tattoo Concept

Description

This is a concept idea to make my half back piece into a full back piece! This is a picture of the free hand concept ideas that my artist gave me for my tattoo. Basically my artist was thinking of creating a large dragon that would wrap around the mountains on my left shoulder and then through the rest of my back. The head would end on my lower back and work with the curves of my body. The dragon's body would cover up the bottom of the mountains, the koi fish and the dragon on my right shoulder. The dragon's front claws would cover the old gryphon tattoos that I have on my lower back. I do not like them and want to cover them up already so that aspect of it may work out well. The symbol could be worked in also. The large dragon's tail would go down my left arm and over my shoulder. The left shoulder would be drawn together with my left full sleeve with the clouds and sky.

I am not 100 % sure on how I feel about all of it but I am thinking a lot about going this direction with my back piece. My original half back piece is very beautiful and tells a story but is not put together with much planning of making it a full back piece. Also as far as from an artistic point of view my artist told me that it is no very well done and would be very hard to add a large piece under it that worked into a full back piece.

I am not sure about covering up almost all of my upper tattoo and that is my main concern about this idea. Thankfully it would cover up some outlines of gryphons on my back that I don't like at all! I really love the dragon that he has drawn up for me in this picture. It flows very well and looks great on my body.

The upper half back piece tattoo came from is a Japanese story where a Koi fish climbs a mountain and then becomes a dragon and fly away. The kanji means "Journey". This back piece tattoo represents my life journey, overcoming difficult obstacles and eventually becoming a better person or a higher being. In a way it would be fitting to go in that direction as the whole reason behind my upper tattoo is a life journey.
