many photos are done in this manner using extreme DOF. it is getting to the point of almost being over done, not to say we do not like to see them; but so much more can be done with them. for instance this photo is in something i call 'limbography'. often the title given to a painting or photo is to help the viewer with a starting point to think upon in hopes it will grow in the mind as it is viewed. if this an alien plant it appears to be more of a spore than a plant. the depth of field is to extreme for the viewer; more of the stem should be in focus to let the viewer know it is a plant and not a spore...in other words the photo is not pushed enough in either direction. if the intent was to convince the viewer of an alien plant there is no reference or relationship from viewer to image and image to viewer. also be careful when blurring an image; note the banding that occurs: adding noise helps to alleviate this.
